OK, here's one for you...
I'm stuck at the gate with the sword behind it. I haven't solved the
glimmering gate with the treasure chest but have completely explored the
entire area. I used the copper coin to open the other gate (to give you an
idea of where I am). Can someone tell me how to get through the gate? Both
sides are flanked with water fountains but otherwise there isn't anything
special -- no buttons, keys, etc, to open the gate.
I assume it has to do with the treasure chest behind the blue glimmering wall
but I'll be damned if I can get through. ANY help will be GREATLY appreciated
-- even a straight-out answer will suffice. If you care not to give it away
here in open forum, please send any replies to TOMAS in GEnie mail. In
advance, thanks VERY much! And hurry! This is by far the best RPG computer
game ever made!

I was able to kill the purple worms easily (relatively, with patience) and
effecitively. I was very proud when I killed 4, which took time and patience,
but then I realized that my happiness was VERY premature . The third level
seems to have an absolute ENDLESS supply of baddies. Would the person who
left the note about how to circle around the purple worms please leave me
EMAIL about how to finish this level? I've given it about 7 hours of
frustration. SOrry I don't remember your name.
TOMAS - Email coming.
EVERYONE! I talked to FTL today and tried to get them up here. They said
some interesting thigns. Most of their income comes from spelling checker
dictionaries, which they've been doing for years under the name OASIS (I
believe - they answer the phone as FTL/OASIS). This is where they get their
data compression from - 63,000 words in 100K. The fellow there called ARC
child's play and after seeing this I believe him.
He also said that in one version there were 50 bytes free on the disk, and
they were wondering what to do with all that available space - and they
enhanced the game some more. There are currently 6 bytes free on this disk.
This disk is formated in an extended format AS extended as possible without
running into problem on some machines (like those that cannnot handle 83
tracks.)
The AMiga version will be out in 1-2 months and is a bit faster and
smoother (because of their nice blitter) but otherwise very similar.
The 2 years of effort into this game went more into the SYSTEM than into
this game. The guy said that this game uses only PARTS of the possibilities
of the system they developed - there are lots of thins they can do that
weren't done with DungeonMaster. Expect the second game in this series in 6-8
months, with mmore than 1 disk.

I am on level three, what worms? I have seen things under rocks, but I have
yet to find a easy way to kill (at a long distance). My disk shows that there
is zero K free. Love the game, found one very small nit, if you can call it
that. One of my players just won't die as quickly as she should, I guess it
must deal with all the sleeping she did, with no movement (beyond casting
spells). A new version, yea! Where is my check book, if it is built as sound
as this one, it will be a big hit. .......Brad

Brad and others - "levels" has 2 different definitions, depending on whether
you count the hall of champions or not. I don't count it, since there's no
puzzles or conflicts really. Level 1 starts the next level after the hall of
champions, with me at least.

OK, in that sense it would be Level 2 -- with the complex of doors and
battles. You're right, Henry, this place crawls with nasties. Which one are
you having the worst problem with? Got into the Gem Room/Trapdoor? Is there
ANYTHING required in Level 1 to get the job done in #2? I'm really thinking
I'm missing something along the way.
By the way, can we upgrade to the more-byte version that FTL improved upon?
Even 58 bytes is worth the effort... Can you believe that we accept such an
upgrade with so "little" done to it??? Sheesh! It shows us and FTL what
they've come up with.
For everyone else, without any doubt whatsoever in my mind, go and buy this
game. For the casual pirate, if you guys have any common sense and want to
see 1st grade, quality products for the ST, support FTL and this product! It
would be the best entertainment software investment you ever made. Do
everyone a favor and pay the $39.95 for an original copy with documentation,
you won't go wrong...

HT, I'll try to go back and see how I made it through level three. I
csometimes go back there for food. Those worms aren't very filling, but they
do the job. Basically, as far as I remember, you have to fight your way
through. Be careful to watch for secret passages and hidden buttons. I find
that dead ends aren't always dead ends.....I've gotten to the very bottom but
I lack a certain key. I think I know what level it is on, but I had to skip
a lot of rooms because I didn't have keys to open the doors. I found a puzzle
that I THINK I didn't solve but I can't get by it. Oh well..

SOrry for the confusion, but the version with 50 bytes left was a beta - we
all have the newest version (6 bytes left).
J.CURTICE - there seems to be a trick. I go around in circles, and
OBVIOUSLY the monsters regenerate - especially if you keep going back to that
level for food. I remember a room with a mummy that said "he is my prisoner"
but I can't get back there.

Like a few other people I haven't gotten on to how to use the scrolls. I'm
catching on to the magic spells but I've gotten no where on the scrolls. Since
there are a few of us in the same boat could somebody give us a hint or two?
Any clues would be appreciated.

You don't use the scrolls - the writing on them tells you what you need.
then you can discard the scrolls.

And you don't even need scrolls. With patience, you can figure out spells.
Scrolls are just your 'recipe book' Hey, anyone got a clue on how to get past
the NONE SHALL PASS door or get past the force field to the chest? I think
I'll have to start over. I am using Gandu (?) who carries poison darts, and
so killed off like every single critter on my way down to level 2 (or 3).
Now, when I open a door and 8 things come flying at me, none of my characters
has any combat experience! Thats what I get for taking the easy way out, eh?

Henry, if you can get back to that "prisoner" mummy, you will be just about
near the staircase that goes down a level. I also suggest you do what the
writing says. You will have to do a little more fig( 4ng if you don't

remember, please EMAIL me how to get back to the mummy (or that location) from
the shortcuts.

How about the room on Level 2/3 that's labeled "The Vault"? Something about
"Show us your power and something-or-other." ANY help GREATLY appreciated
there. Also the room that I think is called "The Lord of the Gem." -- the one
with the multiple rooms/sparkling blue and the buttons. Those are the last
two I have to take on on that level. Help!
"The Vault" has a trap door that has to be closed in some way and for the life
of me, I can't find it!

PS, this is NOT the "gem" door where you have to insert the gem to open the
door, by the way.

This game is awesome! If you like fantasy games even a little, buy this one.
You'll be glad you did. Its state of the art from it crisp clean graphics to
it's synthesized sounds to monster that actually react appropriately in combat
(i.e. Run away when losing, chase you when wining, or hide behind corners so
you can't hit them with a fireball) it just gets better and better. I'm on
level 5 and loving every minute of this game so far!
By the way, has anyone solved the wall tha appears and disappears as you step
on different spots on the floor? If so please Email me, thanks. This is in the
area to the right of the writing that says, "If you want to stay alive you
better tur and run."
Heading Down...

TOMAS => It says. show us your INFLUENCE and your MIGHT. Think on that, its a
two step puzzle, using two different aspects of your champions power. Also,
it must be done in the correct order.
Henry => Remember when you said food was too plentiful? Fairly nasty surprise
a bit later, eh? I have dead characters that I am not bringing back to life
because I cannot feed them! Also, we're getting pretty thirsty down here. I
bet there is a spell to create food/drink. Just wish I knew it.
Still looking for a way past NONE SHALL PASS and the force field/chest. If its
a specific answer I need, feel free to EMAIL it. Thanks.

Chris, I took me a long time to figure out how to keep that wall open, but I
finally figured it out. Remember that you aren't the only "people" who can
step on pressure plates.....It isn't nessecary to figure it out, but you
still get a few prizes...... Captain, I skipped the NONE SHALL PASS my first
time around, but when showing the game to a friend, I got back there, and
it turns out to be a rather easy puzzle. As the writing says on a wall a
level or two down, "Don't let a closed door stop you."
If anyone can find an IR key, tell me. I'm stuck and I think that key may
help me finish...

Anyone venture an opinion on whether the shortcut is worth it?
Also, what is the best way to get rid of the mosquito on level 2/3 however you
number it.
Can the ghost be killed on that level?
Anyone else get a SYSTEM ERROR 52 when trying to reload a saved game?

nothing necessary to finish the game. I skipped it my first time past also,
but went back and figured it out by chance (the same way I figured out most

A TIP FOR STARTERS, (I believe would be useful.) Use each chest to carry
only one type of item. Food is a good choice. Also, save your torches as a
last alternative for lighting. finally, save often!
My question for anyone is how to open iron gate, not wooden door, after the
mummy prisoner to get to following level? help!
Also back up your save game disks by saving twice (in good positions). I
believe the SYSTEM ERROR 52 meant a bad disk error of some sort, although I
did have the message "disk unusable" when I place an unformatted disk as my
save disk in drive a:.
Why can't we put save disk in drive b:?????

quickly you find that where you go is dictated by whether you have the eats to
get there.

Aha, finally, I am on level 4. Let me share a STUPID experience I was doing
to help you all avoid the same problem.
I saved the game facing AWAY from a door I needed to go through. I didn't
realize this for about 4 days after doing this. I would start up, and walk
around in circles frustrated. Finally today I figured out that where I needed
to go was behind me when I first booted up. I honestly wasted about 8-10
hours on this!! Be careful!
Also! On your save game disk, there is a backup automatically made of the
previous save file. Look at the save game disk from DeskTop and you'll see
what I mean. An undocumented feature.
I finally came up with a few things I think could be improved. I never feel
comfortable until I find a flaw in something - no matter how small. First of
all, this game COULD and maybe SHOULD sell for about $5 more. THEN they could
provide us with some really neato packaging like Origin does with all its
games. The Origin docs, and the little thingies in every package, are tops.
Secondly, it's kind of strange how you can throw the glass flasks and they
don't break!
Thirdly, does anyone miss any weird, tinkling music? I kind of do. Maybe on
a 1 meg machine?
Finally, I wish that the picture of your character would reflect the clothes
he or she was wearing.
An automapping feature of some sort would be nice. Someone on Scorpia's SIG
mentioned nailing tacks to the walls in games.
----not really needed in DungeonMaster since the mazes aren't that
complex.
All of these are really minor. They shouldn't be construed as me not liking
the game. It's one of the mosst incredible gaming experiences I've ever had.
No exaggeration.
OH! I got an error 52 when I accidently stuck in a disk that wasn't my save
game disk, AND wasn't the DungeonMaster disk. It wasn't a big deal - no
crashes, no lost files - I just stuck in the save game disk and continued.

While we're on the subject of improvements, the one I would like the most is
the ability to restore a game while playing. I often lose a character and
find myself jumping down the nearest pit in order to get the restart option.
It's either that or reboot...

That's fun! A good excuse to commit suicide and hear the scream!
Especially if you do it with the pit - you hear the scream twice in rapid
succession. Quite satisfying (although a restore game option would certainly
save alot of time).
The healing potions are of course probably the most important, and so is the
cure poison potion. I assume everyone can make those? If not, request EMAIL.
I also have a SURE FIRE strategy against purple worms. Request EMAIL.

Magic boxes => hold them in your ready hand to use them.
Anyone besides me figure out the poison gas spell? It starts as a dart kind
of thing, then when it hits a wall it explodes into a cloud of poison gas.
Too bad I can't get one strong enough to do any serious harm.
Also, here is something that I just figured out, maybe it'll help someone
else. Too cast a spell that requires more mana then you have, select the
first parts, but don't cast it, these parts will be held at the ready, then,
when your mana regenerates, you can add the rest, then cast away. Also, you
can use the same principle to go into battle with spells "at the ready".
Henry =>As to worms, here's my EMAIL request!
Does anyone have a trick to killing those rock piles? They take so much
damage, it becomes a bore. (Unless there is a doorway nearby <grin>)

OK, here are my suggestions. I don't like the way the quiver thing works. If
I'm firing a bow, I can pull arrows out. This is how it should be, of
course. But I can also set it up so I can fire one arrow, then pull a sword
out of the quiver (because the upper left-hand spot will accept a sword, and
it is the first to be pulled from.) Now, why can't I shoot all my arrows
first, then pull the sword? But no, I gotta pull up the character, grab the
sword, and replace it -- in the meanwhile being bashed by critters.
Henry => That was I who mentioned the spikes in the wall. It seems a
realistic solution to the mapping problem to me, as I am one of those who
detests mapping.
Anyone figured out the spell of magical protection? It's like the potion you
find in the chest behind the force field, but it covers the whole party.
-Capt. Cook
PS: Like Henry, I mean that suggestion in no way as a real deterent to the
game. This is a must have piece of software. _Please_ don't steal it!
